Merchandise

In an effort to raise some funds for our site overhaul, I'm going to start selling UBC merchandise.

I've been reluctant to sell UBC shirts because the LAST thing I would want is for some creep to visit our site and search for you because they saw our URL on your t-shirt. For that reason, no products will have our URL on them—just logos and tag lines. (In response to Gabby's comment—I can totally incorporate our BTFAs into the merch designs!)

So tell me: what types of items would you buy? What's the most you would be willing to pay for them?  (The ones pictured above totally have my vote!)

  1. Yay! Merch!! I've been thinking that merch would be a good idea for ages, so I'm really excited that you're considering it!!

So I was looking through the sites and I spotted some things that I think would be really cool. I do however think it will depend on the design, because I don't think everyone would necessarily like loads and loads of merch that all has the same logo and tagline but with not much else on. Maybe you could consider doing BTFA and character themed ones too? Also I once saw this really cool tshirt - http://www.redbubble.com/people/mrsaxon/works/8896992-busy-to-do-list and maybe a similar sort of one could be done for UBC? So like Filmed monologues? Given critiques? Signed up for voting cycle? etc.

But anyway, necklaces I think would be really cool. Like there could be character ones, which I think would not only be really cool, but could work as motivation to keep members active, because they have a cool necklace that reminds them of how much they want to get a finalist title or even be cast as that character. Also, pillows would be cool. Just because pillows. Cases for things like kindles and phones would be cool as well as the mouse pads. I think calendars would also be really really awesome. You could have the photo's being one for each BTFA, with each of the main three ones getting two photos. You can have dates put in it for stuff like when voting cycles start and finish and also for things like voting cycle sign up deadlines, any events or activities that will take place and stuff like that. Also it would be cool because as a further reward for finalists, on either the cover or back photo's, there could be a collage of photo's of the previous years finalists. Or maybe the collage could be photo's of all the members faces, and finalists could be photoshopped into the image for the BTFA they were a finalist for. Laptop speakers would also be cool. Keychains and mugs would be cool as well I think. I like both the shirt designs you selected. Also maybe there could be a vest top of some kind? And hoodies, just because I collect hoodies, I literally have so many it's ridiculous.

Regarding prices, I don't really know how much it is in dollars, but I think it will obviously differ depending on what the item is. I think my limit for the more expensive stuff like tshirts would be around £20 (like I might go a bit over that, but it depends on the design and how much spare money I have floating around - like I have quite a lot right now, so I'd be willing to pay a bit more). So I think that's a bit over $30?? idk.

  2. I'd definitely buy a t-shirt, assuming it wouldn't be too much money (which for me, would probably be anything over $20.) But yeah, just the UBC logo would be cool, and like taglines or hashtags, also cool.

  3. I'm with Laura on this, I'm liking the baseball T-shirt above especially though, and around $20 including shipping is reasonable.

  4. It isn't possible to get a shirt for that price through Zazzle. Sorry, guys.

Even the cheapest of t-shirts starts at $14.95, and that doesn't even include the markup needed to make a profit ($5 or so) OR shipping (which probably runs $5-8). The only products you could possibly get for under $20 with shipping are a keychain or a small tote bag...

  5. (The shirts could be under $20 if I ordered in bulk from a different website, but that's a ton of money ($500+) upfront with no guarantee of ever getting it back. I'd also have to handle all of the shipping myself, but then there's the cost of shipping supplies and getting to the post office and yada yada yada...I bet you all really want to run a website now, right? :P)

  6. I have a brother (Nate Watson), who's an awesome graphic designer, and he designs t-shirts, so maybe I can put you in touch with him and he can give you a better deal on the t-shirts. His label is called "HUH?" in case you want to look it up.

  8. I have an idea for merchandise (hopefully it isn't too late to think of this) - what if you made merch that had to do with some of the BTFAs featured on the site, like, I don't know...a t-shirt that says "I [fang]irl over UBC" or something catchy like that. Because it has to do with both maximum ride and ubc, and I think that would be kind of interesting. But if that'll end up costing too much or something, then I understand.
