Merchandise Follow-Up Post

Based on the maximum prices you guys said you'd be able to pay for a t-shirt, I don't think Zazzle is going to work out.

Based on my calculations, I'll need to bulk-order somewhere between 30-40 of them in order to make a profit, cover shipping and handling, and keep the selling price at $20. Unfortunately, this requires me to spend $200-300 upfront on shirts that have no guarantee of ever being purchased.

These are the two styles I'm considering. Given the upfront cost and time/expensive to ship these myself, I think selling just one shirt design and nothing else for now would be reasonable.

  1. I don't know if you saw me comment this on the other merchandise post (since it was less than an hour ago), but my brother makes t-shirts, and his are usually affordable and amazing. His label is called HUH?, so I can put you in touch with him if you want. He can screen print, and I don't think 30-40 would be a problem to him.

  2. You could also try other sites like redbubble and society6?? I use redbubble myself, and all you need to do is create a design and upload it, once uploaded you can choose how much profit you want to make from each product, the more profit you make, the more the item costs. It means you don't need to worry about ordering in things, the company takes care of all of that and you get paid monthly. It's all explained better on the site, I'm not very good at explaining things. But I would definitely recommend redbubble, I use it a lot and so does one of my friends.

    1. Zazzle operates in the same way (which is why I found it appealing); but as with Zazzle, the base rate alone puts most of their merch out of the ideal price range you guys mentioned: http://support.redbubble.com/kb/advanced/base-prices

    2. (But it is indeed less expensive, so it could work if you guys are willing to pay $25-$30 instead of $20!)

  3. You could also ask us to pre-order. That way you would have the money upfront--and also see if there's enough interest to bulk order it.
